Challenge

A key goal of the Texas Army National Guard is to lower energy costs so that the savings are available to support the troops. Upgrading the lighting is a main focus, since the Guard has many facilities with conventional lighting systems.

Solution

Environmentally safe, low-wattage Ringdale ActiveLED lighting was chosen to replace the lighting in several facilities, including the Dining Hall and the Gymnasium. The retrofit in the Dining Hall consisted of replacing 16 300-watt Metal Halide lights with 12 85-watt ActiveLED High Bay Round fixtures and 16 100-watt 8" incandescent can downlights with 16 14-watt ActiveLED Recessed Can Downlights. The retrofit in the Gymnasium consisted of replacing 36 300-watt Metal Halide lights with 36 85-watt ActiveLED High Bay Round fixtures.

Testimony

The lighting retrofits not only saved the Guard money in lower energy costs, they provide better light. The Dining Hall energy savings is 81%, with an estimated average annual savings of $1,439 a year. The Gymnasium energy savings is 72%, with an estimated average annual savings of $2,630 a year.
